I currently am unable to run classes as I have an extremely busy work and uni schedule. I dont know when I'll next be able to run classes but it probably wont be this year. Thanks to everyone who has contacted me or came to the classes

Hey Everyone! Hope that everyone is safe and well.
During lock-down I have been working as a support worker in the community which has been very rewarding. I've been making the most of online classes by doing a digital marketing class and learning some circus skills with Aerial Edge, a Glasgow based circus school. They even taught me to juggle! My house has never been cleaner and the garden shed is nearly rid of all the clutter (not really). Despite all that I am really looking forward to spending time with people in person sharing different hobbies together. I can't wait until I can get back to my BSL classes and even just having a coffee out with someone. Which is why after watching the First Minister's updates and looking at the "roadmap" I'm turning my attention to when Bobbin'Jays can be back up and running again. I'm currently looking at starting back the beginner's workshops in August. Over the next few days and weeks I'll be looking at the First Minister's guidance and putting things in place to ensure we can return safely. I want to ask you what would make you feel comfortable to come to our workshops and what would you like to see our workshops include? When we started our workshops made bags, notebook covers and cushion covers but I'd like to hear from you about what you would like to make! I also want to see your lock down projects, the good, the bad, the successes and disasters. Hope to see you all again very soon. Bobbin'Jays Photo by Karly Santiago on Unsplash Hey Everyone,
This past couple of weeks have been quite bewildering. In my day job I finished working at That Looks Good costume hire at the end of Feb and went back to work with Robert's Care as a support worker. Then the corona virus hit Britain. Theatre has ground to a halt but as a support worker I have been very busy. Classes will be postponed for the foreseeable future. I will be starting up again when the government advises that it is safe. I understand that most people are self isolating, social distancing and working from home. It is more important than ever to look after your mental health. Make an effort to wash and dress every morning. It is tempting to stay in your pj's but its hard to have any motivation to do anything unless you change. Have a dedicated work space if you are working from home. Take frequent breaks from working. Take a walk about the house/garden. Start a sewing project with any fabric/old clothing you have stashed away. Have some self care time and call your friends and family frequently to maintain your relationships. If anyone wants help with projects then feel free to message the page and when I am not working I can try and post a video to help with any projects you may be working on. I also have a Facebook group if you want to join and share projects with others. Hi Everyone,
Hope everyone had a great new year. I've been making quilts. I found fabric that I had cut out a while back and figured while I was off work for the holidays I should make it up. I've just to finish it all. Tonight it's the night before the first class and I am preparing all the materials for tomorrow, listening to my favourite podcasts. I'm a little nervous for the first class but that's normal. I'll be at the venue from 5.30pm to set up everything and have a quick cuppa before starting. If you have missed this class' booking and still want to attend in January you can still book classes 2 and 3 before 9pm on the Wednesday prior to the class. There are still spaces for the Alterations Classes starting in February and the next Beginner's block starts on Thursday 27th February. Hey there everyone! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year when it comes! I've been making samples and making sure everything is in order for the classes. The beginner's class has been filling up fast and the alterations class still has quite a few places left. At home this year I've cut back on the decorations as I got two kittens who are still knocking everything over and trying to chew everything. Last year I made fabric scrap tinsel which is one of many Christmas sewing projects I love. You simply gather up your scraps cut them into strips and sew down the middle of the strips. From Fabric tinsel to Fabric Chains. They make the room festive and are good for the environment as they can be used again and again and use up all the scraps created by other projects. Come and learn with us and next year your decorations will be as unique and colourful as you want them to be! Bobbi Jean xx Everything is ready. The venue is booked. The sewing machines are here. All I need now is you.
The fabric has come from the Craft Cotton Company and it looks amazing. I bought packs of "fat quarters" to give a wide variety of colours and prints for people to choose. It makes me want to start making with it all but I have to restrain myself till classes begin (other than the odd sample, maybe?). After much dilemma I also chose the make for the third beginner's class. I wanted to make something that could be useful. Something which could be reused and which could be unique to someone. Something I hadn't seen in the shops. I was writing my schedule in my organiser and it came to me. A cover for a notebook or organiser would be perfect. I'm excited to get started and my goal for this month and next is to get sign ups to both classes. Currently there are still spaces for both classes but the beginners classes are starting to fill up quickly. Over the next few days I will be sampling the patterns I intend to draft and use in the classes. Photos will be going up soon. Hope to hear from you soon Bobbi Jean x Yesterday I got the delivery I have been waiting for all week. The Sewing Machines are here. I got 10 brand new Janome 219-S and 10 Hemline sewing kitsin preparation for the workshops in January.
Everything arrived from Jaycotts yesterday via DPD. The whole process has seemed very quick. Only a couple bits and bobs still to get: Fabric, and "notions". Notions is sewing-speak for things like thread, buttons and elastic. One step closer to the start. The classes will run in 3 week blocks. First block is beginners. If you cant make all three classes you can also book just one and pick up the rest on the next block or if your feeling confident move on. Second block is alterations. This is my specialty as this has been my job for 2 years come January. I work with a costume hire company to alter costumes to fit actors for theatre shows. It's something I cant wait to show you all. This is also split into 3 classes but they can be done individually. Alterations is a class that needs a little sewing experience so make sure that if you've never sewn before that you book onto a beginners class first. Look forward to hearing from you all Bobbi Jean xx This morning I put in the order for 10 new sewing machines and sewing kits from Jaycotts. The man was very nice on the phone and even gave me a discount.
I like using Jaycotts to find my patterns. I found out about them in University when I was using the patterns for costuming and didn't have the time to draft my own. They have lots of patterns that are very affordable and I was surprised to find they also sold sewing machine and sewing kits when I was researching. They should arrive on Saturday. I'm so excited! On a side note the card reader arrived yesterday. Not quite so exciting as the machines but necessary nonetheless. Hope to see you soon Bobbi Jean x Welcome to my website. I am Bobbi Jean and I live and work in Paisley. I will be starting up workshops in sewing in January 2020.
This idea has been with me since 2014 when I studied HND Fashion Textiles at Glasgow Clyde College. I got my degree in Costume Design and Construction and moved back home to Paisley where I have been working as a home-carer and for a local costumier who supplies costumes across the UK and Ireland but I have never lost my dream of sharing my skills with the local community. Paisley was once the home of textiles known throughout the world and like most people who live here my parent, grandparents and great aunts and uncles worked in that industry. I will be setting up the workshops on a Thursday night in 5 King Street and booking will be available from mid Nov. Hope to see you all there Bobbi Jean xx |
